With so many different brands and types of acrylic paint out there, it can become overwhelming to know which one to choose.
Do you go with the one that costs the most or is well recognized?
In this article, I will compare two popular acrylic paint brands, Liquitex and Master’s Touch.
Liquitex is a well-known brand that has been around for over 60 years and is known for its high-quality acrylic paints with a high pigment concentration, smooth consistency, and wide range of colors.
Master’s Touch, on the other hand, is a brand sold exclusively at Hobby Lobby stores and is known for offering affordable art supplies, including acrylic paints with a smooth consistency, high pigment load, and good value for money.
I have purposely only compared the two to keep things simple for artists who do not want to be overwhelmed with information and data.
By comparing just these two brands I hope to help artists make an informed decision when choosing between Liquitex vs Master’s Touch paints.
Between Liquitex and Master’s Touch – Which Acrylic Paint Is Best?
Best Acrylic Paint Based on Affordability = Master’s Touch Acrylic Paints
Best Acrylic Paint Based on Quality = Liquitex Acrylic Paints
Determining which acrylic paint is best between Liquitex and Master’s Touch depends on several factors, including personal preferences and budget.
Liquitex is a well-established brand that has been making acrylic paints for over 60 years and is known for its high-quality acrylic paints with a high pigment concentration, smooth consistency, and wide range of colors.
I first came across the brand when I was studying Pop artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and saw that some used a paint called Liquitex.
Liquitex paints are favored by professional artists and beginners alike for their ability to mix well and produce vibrant colors.
The flip side is that Liquitex paints can be more expensive than other brands, and that may be a deal breaker for artists on a tighter budget.
Below are the Liquitex BASICS variety of acrylic paints which are comparable to the Master’s Touch. Liquitex also offer more specialized acrylics from Heavy body to Soft Body etc.

Master’s Touch is a brand I wasn’t really familiar with. Master’s Touch is meant to be sold exclusively at Hobby Lobby stores but I have found some being resold on Amazon.
Master’s Touch is known for offering affordable art supplies, including acrylic paints.
While the range of colors may be more limited compared to Liquitex, Master’s Touch acrylic paints have a smooth consistency and high pigment load, making them an excellent choice for artists who need to cover larger areas.
I found them to be less opaque than Liquitex.

Additionally, Master’s Touch paints offer good value for money, making them an attractive option for beginners and those who need to paint frequently.
In the end the choice between Liquitex and Master’s Touch depends on your needs, brand preferences based on awareness, and most of all budget.
Both brands offer high-quality acrylic paints that can produce beautiful and vibrant artworks.
Unless you are a professional artist it doesn’t really matter if you choose Liquitex for its high-quality or Master’s Touch for its affordability, you can’t go wrong with either brand and the trade-offs are small.

Masters Touch acrylic paint vs Liquitex basics
When comparing acrylic paints there are several basic factors to consider. Some of these include:
Pigment Concentration
The amount of pigment in a paint affects its color strength and vibrancy. Look for paints with a high pigment concentration for better quality and more vivid colors.
Consistency
The consistency of a paint can range from thick and heavy to thin and runny. Consider the consistency that will work best for your painting style and techniques.
Drying Time
Acrylic paints dry quickly, but the drying time can vary between brands. Some may dry faster than others, which may affect your painting process.
Color Range
Consider the range of colors available from each brand. Some brands may offer a wider range of colors, while others may specialize in certain color families.
Lightfastness
Lightfastness refers to a paint’s ability to resist fading when exposed to light. Look for paints with high lightfastness ratings for long-lasting and durable artworks.
Price
The cost of acrylic paints can vary widely between brands. Consider your budget when comparing different brands.
Brand Reputation
Consider the reputation of each brand within the art community. Look for reviews and feedback from artists who have used the paints to get a better idea of their quality and performance.
